So Wednesday 29th May saw AM:PM’s 11th Birthday, and Cabaret Supper Club pulled out all the stops to celebrate. As per usual, this was a free event with full entertainment, refreshments on arrival and delicious hot tapas.
Doors opened at 7pm and the decadent, 1920s style supper club filled up fast. There was bubbly on arrival and entertainment on tap with Katy Tee (dubbed “Belfast’s version of Nora Jones”) kicking things off at 7.30pm.
With scenes from ‘Some Like it Hot’ projected onto the stage, the chandeliers overhead and mountains of velvet, it was hard not to be transported into the speakeasies and supper clubs of the past.
Aside from the décor and the entertainment on offer, if there’s one thing to look forward to on a night out at Cabaret its definitely the food – especially the tapas, which we’ve had the pleasure of sampling more than once.
The first round of food came round at around 8pm, but the trays that were circulating seemed to miss our table. We called over a member of staff who apologised profusely and assured us that she would personally direct the trays our way when they were next bringing it out, what more could you ask for?
An hour or so later we got to try some of the tapas on offer – mini burgers, wedges (which were amazing), massive vol-au-vents, chicken goujons, tacos and much much more. Once we’d had our fill, the girl we’d first spoken to grabbed a fresh tray from the kitchen and gave us all seconds – definitely making up for the slow start to the night.
Back to the entertainment, there was an array of things going on, from Robert Brown’s musical flare to our host Cherrie Ontop’s endless antics. There was even fire dancers, hoop acrobatics and burlesque.
All in all, this was a classic night at Belfast’s Cabaret Supper Club, and a fantastic way to celebrate AM:PM’s eleventh birthday – with excellent food, endless entertainment and all the cocktails you could manage Cabaret is definitely a unique night out for everyone.
