About a year ago, we went to a rehearsed reading of Martin McDonagh’s The Pillowman at The MAC. With no props, costumes or actions, this was a truly stripped back ‘performance’ of a bleak and clever play. To put it lightly, we were spellbound, and I still find myself thinking of the evocative story to this very day.
Winner of the Olivier Award for Best Comedy, the Evening Standard Award for Best New Play and two Tony Awards, The Pillowman has taken the West End and Broadway by storm. Following the success of their recent tour of McDonagh’s A Skull in Connemara, Decadent Theatre Company return with this must-see production. The Pillowman celebrates the raw, vital human instinct to invent fantasies, to lie for sport, to con for one’s own end. Martin McDonagh’s The Pillowman is as dark a comedy as it is possible to find.
If you missed it, now’s your chance to see The Pillowman in all of its intended glory. From the writer and director of In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths, The Pillowman is a dark comedy true to McDonagh’s distinct and wickedly dark style. Telling the story of the interrogation of a young writer whose twisted tales seem to be coming to life, this is a story unlike any other. To just describe it to you wouldn’t do it justice, so we urge you to go and check it out for yourselves.
Brought to you by Decadent Theatre Company, The Pillowman will be running at The Lyric Theatre from 24th March – 19th April. For more info and to book tickets click here.
