MCM Comic Con finally arrived at the Kings hall Pavilion on Saturday 7th June and as thousands on Nerd, Geeks and Cosplay people descended upon the hallowed grounds Pastiebap sat at home. But on the second day Sunday 8th June, we were up with the lark to soak it all in! I brought along our in house artist and comic book czar Paul aka theskeletonblog.com in case things got technical and I wrongly mistook my red kryptonite for green kryptonite. As we entered the Pavilion a sensory over load occurred as there seemed to be a good 40% of people in cosplay, us plain clothes were in minority! The walls of the Pavilion were lined up with merchandise sellers who were hawking everything form Chucky dolls to mine craft swords, limited edition comics to maps form the goonies, a true one eyed willies treasure cave of Nerdy trinkets. In the middle were rows of artists – selling and signing their comics, taking commissions, drawing folk and just having a natter. In a corner was the signing tables and at £15 a pop I was surprised how long the queues were. To the other side was a few stars of TV’s robot wars and a mini arena where you could control robots to play football.

We had a watch of some of the latest movie trailers at the Universal stand, before perusing what the merchants had to offer, a few artists drew in the middle of the floor as part of the drawing competition as we walked by. Belfast’s own Emerald Garrison were on hand with some excellent Star wars props and costumes that saw Darth Maul flanked on all sides by photo ready storm troopers. As were talking photos at the enormous Transformers 4 cardboard standee Batman and Spider and jumped in to save us from life threatening paper cuts, and also to take a rather spiffing photo! Later we saw a great Q&A session with the stars of Red Dwarf, the cast seemed to enjoy this no end and the crowd sounded like they felt the same.

The true stars of Comic con however are the Cosplayers (abbreviated form Costume-Players) who roam the place all day long, stopping every few second to get a picture with some-one. The costumes are immaculate with Deadpool, Harley Quinn and Dr. who being the favourites of the day. You could literally spend all day people watching in this place and you wouldn’t get bored, the time and effort put in is commendable. This year Comic Con started off small, until they worked out if there was the crowd for it, with advance tickets selling out on both days and the crowd I saw, I’d say next year they’ll be opening up the second part of the pavilion to accommodate people. Maybe with the extra space we can get a Galactus cosplay of real size!
