Welcome back fair travelers thanks for stopping by, take a seat, rest your legs. This week we concern ourselves with X-Men, Captain America, The Dark Tower, Daredevil and Guardians of the Galaxy. Get your feet off the table and we’ll begin with X-Men.
X-Men: Apocalypse
Little Sansa is all grown up (does that sound creepy?) and has joined the X-Men (Yeah that definitely sounded creepy). Sophie Turner (should I go back and change it?) is playing a young version of Jean Grey (Nah)who was originally played by Famke Johnson. “How will her portrayal be different?” I hear you ask. Sophie took some time away from escaping the clutches of Ramsey Bolton to let you know.
“The difference between this and Famke’s Jean Grey is she’s young and isolated and so insecure and very alienated – even from the other mutants – because she’s so powerful. So there’s a real vulnerability to her and it’s great to see how her and Scott [aka Cyclops, played by Tye Sheridan] find each other through that alienation. She’s a great role to play, she’s so much fun, and her arc in the movie is amazing.”
Captain America Civil War
It’s getting closer to all out super war. War is hell. Super hell. We have a bunch of new pictures of a bunch of stuff that happens in the film. check them out below.
Batman v Superman
Looks like we’ll be getting a more violent cut of Batman v Superman when it makes it’s way to disc. Filmratings reports that a different cut of the movie has been rated R for “sequences of violence”. No word yet on if the Blu-ray/DVD will also feature the PG-13 cut (the one in theaters) as well of if we’ll have to choose between the dark and the light. I expect there will be a PG-13 copy and one that also has the R-rated version packaged in.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2
Tommy Flannigan has joined the cast of James Gunn’s latest intergalactic Marvel movie. Flannigan has been in Braveheart, Gladiator and most recently Peaky Blinders and Sons of Anarchy. He’ll be playing one of Yondu’s ravagers. He joins other new additions Pom Klementieff and Kurt Russell.
The Dark Tower
It’s been along time coming but Stephen King’s The Dark Tower is finally going to come to the big screen. Much to the surprise of the man himself
“The thing is, it’s been a looong trip from the books to the film,” King says, putting it right in context: “When you think about it, I started these stories as a senior in college, sitting in a little shitty cabin beside the river in Maine, and finally this thing is actually in pre-production now.” He laughs. “I’m delighted, and I’m a little bit surprised.” -EW
Nikolaj Arcel (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo ) will be directing and has been talking to EW about the film’s themes.
“What Stephen King does best is mixing the everyday, or what you might call the mundane, with the fantastical,” says Arcel. “In my view, [The Dark Tower] novels are a mix between sci-fi and fantasy and modern times. That exact mix is so Stephen King.” -EW
It’s been known for a while that Nikolaj would be directing but now we have confirmation that Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey have been cast. The Dark Tower is shaping up nicely.
Daredevil
As promised we have part 2 of those Daredevil trailers that Netflix have been putting out these past few weeks. Part one (on last week’s Octogeek) featured The Punisher. This time the focus is on Elekra.
Competition Time!
‘Competition Time!’ is the latest film from director Quentin Tarantino. It stars that guy that played Iron Man and features Leo ‘I finally have something to put in my bathroom’ Dicaprio. It’s not though is it? This has all been a rouse to get you to take a look at the Octogeek’s little competition. You can win a calendar. A Star Wars one! It’s easy! Show the Octogeek some support and take a guess at what he’s been wearing lately. Competition and details after the jump. Thanks guys. Until next week. Keep it octopussy.
