The Apple World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) is occurring and so there’s a lot of info about what they’re up to, there’s a lot of detail out there but we’ve decided to give you the bullet points so you’ve half a clue what’s coming. There’s been nothing groundbreaking or exactly unexpected as yet, more giving updates and improvements to stuff we already knew about, but they still have to the 14th so give them time will ya?
IOS9 is announced
- Privacy improvements
- Siri improvements
- ‘Proactive’ is announced -basically apples version of Google now
- Notes App – you can take better notes
- HomeKit – getting apple a step up on the Internet of Things
- Maps updated -transport directions included
- ‘Snap To’ for some ipads, which apple is calling ‘Splitview’
- Improved battery life
Apple Music
- ‘Beats’ by another name
- 24/7 radio station from the US and UK
- Free for 3 months for all Apple customers
- $9.99 a month after or $14.99 for up to 6 family members
- Connect is the social media aspect, allows bands to communicate with fans
OS X – El Capitan
- New OS X called El Capitan, no seriously this is what it’s called
- Spotlight – more natural language allowed
- Metal -support for Apple’s graphic programming language. Better performance for gamers (who games on a Mac?)
- Safari – Auto playing sound killer, ‘Pins’ allows you to create bookmarks
- ‘Split view’ Apple brings windows 6 year old ‘Snap To’ feature to OS X
- New trackpad gestures announced
The Rest
- Apple pay launches in the Uk in July, will be available to use instead of an oyster card, nandos chicken can be bought with it
- Newsstand is gone, News is here. Similar but different
- Swift 2 is announced as Apple’s open source programming language
- Apple Watch OS2 announced with loads of wee improvements. Main one being watch only apps will be a thing, so no longer so tied to your iPhone. Also you can pick your own photo as a watch face!
