The Queen’s Film Theatre (or QFT for short) is Belfast’s leading independent cinema, located beside the grounds of Queen’s University. It shows the very best of world cinema, meaning that they show artistic and alternative films, new and old, alongside some of the regular ones that you’d find in the Movie House or Odeon. It’s got some extremely comfortable seats which recline a little and make the experience so much better. It’s also the first cinema in NI to install a digital projector, meaning that they can now screen state-of-the-art high definition digital films as well as standard celluloid films. You’re guaranteed to find something unusual or interesting on, so have a look at what’s on here.

Facilities:
The QFT is pretty much the only cinema in Belfast where you can have a drink, The Jameson Bar at QFT is open every night from 6pm serving a wide range of spirits, bottled beers including Belfast Blonde, Headless Dog and more from College Green Brewery (right round the corner), wine, a range of classic cocktails, a range of teas, coffee, light snacks and sweets. The bar has a nice and relaxed atmosphere with lights made from wine bottles, a comfy sofa and movie info projected onto a screen in front of you, what more could you ask for?

QFT Film Card:
The QFT Film Card gives members 2 complimentary tickets on sign up, a £2.50 discount per film, the QFT programme emailed to you, free tea and coffee refills at the QFT bar, exclusive meal deals at selected local restaurants and an invitation to the QFT Christmas and Summer parties. Membership costs £35 and you can subscribe by post, online or in person. There’s also a £100 friends and family membership card which you can read about here.

Location:
20 University Square,
Northern Ireland,
Belfast BT7 1PA

The QFT entrance faces the one-way street which runs from University Road to Botanic Avenue, along the north side of the Lanyon Building, the main building of Queen’s University.

How to get there:
The QFT is a 5 minute walk from Botanic Train Station, click here for the Translink Journey Planner and train/bus timetables. Any Metro that services Queen’s University should get you near to the QFT. You can even use Google Maps to plan your journey here or using the map below.

Parking:
QFT has free parking available across the road after 5.30pm daily and you can park right in front of the building as well. These spaces can be few and far between at peak times though, so prepare to hunt around for a space, however it’s very rare that you won’t get parked close by.
