It’s that time of year again – get your rainbow flags at the ready as Ireland’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans festival is back and ready to show you a good time!
Running from the 25th July to the 2nd August, this is sure to be one hell of a kiki, especially if that weather keeps up. Here’s all you need to know about the upcoming activities. For full details check out the website.
Today (Saturday 26th July) there’s the Out ‘N’ About Lagan Valley Walk starting at 11.30am, where you can meet new people, learn about local history and enjoy a gentle start to the week’s proceedings. In the Belfast LGBT centre there is also the Belfast LGBT Health Fair where you can partake in a range of free complimentary therapies, health checks and advice.
Next up is Sunday 27th with the bigger and better Lark in the Park in Ormeau park which this year combines Paws for Pride the doggy pride parade. If you’re a film fan then there’s a Mamma Mia singalong in the grounds of City Hall and the film Female Trouble will be playing in the QTF. If you prefer to sashay the night away then there’s also dance lessons at the Out To Dance – Céilí/Salsa at the Black Box.
On Monday 28th there’s Prayer and Reflection at All Souls Church and the GLYNI Annual Debate will be held in the Black Box and will be tackling the subjects of Sexuality and Religion and ‘what about the B&T in LGBT?’. Finally, All About My Mother will be playing at the Ulster Hall.
Tuesday 29th sees Sexual Health Testing at the Belfast LGBT Centre and Action for Equality will be at the Ulster Hall featuring some short speeches and a chance to have your own say. At Unison, Staying Out Late sees playwright, LGBT advocate and comedienne Claire Summerskill present a workshop about older lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people’s thoughts and concerns about being out and in care later in life. The film Polyester will be playing at the QFT and for those who want to party Voodoo are holding a special Belfast Pride gig featuring live music from Sons of Sin, We Collide and Midnight Transmission. At the Queens Students Union there is also the Genderjam Trans Clothes Swap, a great day open to all trans, gender variant and intersex people to swap clothes to make transitioning easier.
