Many moons ago I participated in a mass pancake flip at what was then Belfast’s Odyssey Arena (SSE Arena) to try and beat the world record for the most amount of people flipping pancakes at the same time. Honestly, I don’t think we beat the record, I never heard anything about it in the news and I can’t find anything about it online. But it definitely happened, I swear.
Lucky enough that’s all in the past, as Tourism Northern Ireland give it a real go this time, and attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people flipping a pancake in one spot.
With support from Asda, Irwin’s and the Belfast Metropolitan College, the attempt will take place at Belfast Met Titanic Quarter in their courtyard at 11am today and is being held as a part of the 2016 Year of Food and Drink.
The record currently stands at 890 people, but the ambitious Tourism NI hope to reach a target of 1000! Participants are meeting at 11am, with a practice being held at 12pm and the final attempt taking place at 12.15pm.
The first 1000 people to attend will receive pans and pancakes to flip, and of course, the more the merrier!
UPDATE: While loads of people turned up for the event, the Guinness World Record wasn’t broken, however the Northern Ireland record was! I guess I’ll take that certificate down now…
