Belfast Film Festival is still a few months away (it runs from 16th – 25th April), but for film fans and lovers of a good time everywhere, there’s a few events being run in February to get you in the spirit. And if that wasn’t enough, Robot Overlords is being shown again on Sunday 8th Feb in Donaghadee, while those further afield can catch The Goonies in Portrush on that date as well.

To celebrate the release in Northern Ireland of the hotly anticipated ROBOT OVERLORDS, which was shot in Northern Ireland in 2013, the Belfast Film Festival will present Drive-in screenings at two specific locations which were used during filming.

Directed by Jon Wright and starring Gillian Anderson and Ben Kingsley, ROBOT OVERLORDS is a home-grown homage to the action adventure films of the ’80s, packed with incredible special effects and rebellious excitement for all ages. The adults lost the war and now the kids must save the world! Robots rule the streets and the people are locked in their homes. Stepping outside risks being vapourised by a hulking sentry or picked off by a lethal sniper.  hrough the ruins of Britain a group of kids, led by Callan McAuliffe (The Great Gatsby), set out to join the Resistance. Hot on their heels, however, is their old teacher turned robot collaborator Mr Smythe, played by Ben Kingsley (Iron Man 3) and his captive Gillian Anderson (The X-Files). Book tickets here and here.

To celebrate its 30th Anniversary we present a special Drive In event as part of BFF’s ‘Coastal Cinema’ season. The film will shown on the worlds largest LED screen. This event is funded by FilmHub NI. A Belfast Film Festival event in association with Coleraine Borough Council.

A band of pre-teens who live in the “Goon Docks” neighbourhood of  the seaside town of Astoria, attempting to save their homes from demolition, and in doing so, discover an old Spanish map that leads them on an adventure to unearth the long-lost fortune of One-Eyed Willie, a legendary 17th-century pirate. They head down the coast and stumble upon a derelict seaside restaurant that seems to match coordinates set by the map. However, the Fratellis, a family of fugitives, have other ideas. Book tickets here.
