Sitting in the Cathedral Quarter across the street from fellow Scottish blow-in Six by Nico, Pizza Punks has a decidedly different aesthetic and attitude to dining.

Take back control of your pizza – choose from over 50 unlimited toppings for one flat fee – say no to establishment – join our revolution and experience pizza the way you want to.

The bright neon glow of an ‘Anarchy’ style logo beckons you in and this look is carried on throughout the experience. Each wall has a different look, exposed, wooden slats, tiles, etc. The floor is that exposed brushed concrete look that is fashionable at the minute and the mix of chairs and leather, booth style backing seats sit either side of wooden tables.

Neon lights glow with the various messages and a tattoo style painting denotes more of this punk ethos. Vivienne Westwood doesn’t do pizzerias but if she did…

It’s like sitting in a comfy-ish warehouse with the trendiest friends you have. Located centrally and to the back is a long black and white counter that guards the massive wood-fired oven that’s to make our pizzas.

The staff are efficient and friendly, we order off the menu, constructing our own pizzas from the “as-many-toppings-as you like-for-one-fixed-price”. The fixed price is £11 btw. I have candied bacon, chipotle & chocolate pulled pork, sweetcorn, caramelised onions, sun dried tomatoes and pineapple (shut up pineapple haters this is my pizza!).

The pizza comes in about 10 minutes and is a sour-dough base which definitely adds to the unique flavour, the tomato sauce is sweet and tangy, the mix of toppings doesn’t overload it as I had worried and overall it’s a truly excellent pizza.

Whilst the idea of Pizza Punks is anarchy and disorder, fortunately, that doesn’t trickle down to their food or service. All around this was a great visit and I’ll certainly be back to get another pizza the action 😉
