On paper, it may seem like an easy option to take a classic and re-work it but in reality, taking something that people know and love and tinkering with it is no mean feat. Fortunately, The MAC has the knack of getting people that can do just that and with a script from Derry Girls own Tara Lynne O’Neill and direction by Sean Cairns they’ve done it again this year.

Set in an old theatre harking back to the 1900’s, this heart-warming production will take audiences on a journey through time as they watch the characters work together in true Christmas spirit to soften Ebenezer Scrooge’s tough exterior.  There’ll be lots of fun along the way of course, so expect toe-tapping tunes, laugh-out-loud antics and the magical, memorable experience expected from a MAC Christmas show.

The show is peppered throughout with explosive musical numbers by Garth McConaghie and a cast of recognisable faces traipse the boards both literally and in the play, to bring the production together in a way that the whole family can enjoy.

The set twists and turns and is used to great effect to bring the well-known story to life and the tweaking gives it a freshness that makes you eager to see what’s going to happen next.

In fact, this was the first show I’ve taken my 4-year-old Alex too and he absolutely loved it! I also love that the show keeps it’s running time to a succinct 1hr 40mins (including 20-minute break) means that little once don’t tire of the action.

A Christmas Carol runs at The MAC until the 5th January and all the details and tickets can be found here.
