This week we have the reanimated corpse of Star Wars’ Moff Tarkin and General Zod’s flippers. We also have Zombies, Wolverine and Captain America. Lets get started shall we?
Star Wars : Rogue One
Last week I reported on some casting for the Star Wars spin off movie ‘Rogue One’. The movie tells the tale of how the rebel alliance came to get a hold of the infamous Death Star Plans as seen in Star Wars: A New Hope. What kind of film would it be though if it didn’t contain Grand Moff Tarkin future commander of said Death Star? The only problem is that Peter Cushing who played Tarkin is dead. Enter the CGI wizards in charge of the special effects of Rogue one and we have Peter Cushing brought back to life as a sort of corpse puppet for the Disney Corporation to do what they want with. Yay! In the future all films will just be made with CGI representations of actors from across time. Peter Sellers will star alongside Robin Williams (too soon?) in a remake of Gremlins. A CGI representation of Tom Cruise will play Gizmo whether he likes it or not. If you’re making a film and the villain just doesn’t seem evil enough why not try casting CGI Hitler to play the part? Distracting? Yes. Evil? Totally! All hail the glorious future of cinema!
Captain America: Civil War
Captain America has been filming in Germany and by that I mean the film is shooting there and not that Cap’ is on holiday making Super 8 movies of him and his family. His whole family is long dead, remember? The filming in Germany has trumped up a pic of Falcon working with or at least running with Winter Soldier. I like how Sebastian Stan runs with his tongue out. He’s concentrating real hard. He calls this method of acting ‘colouring within the lines’.
Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse
Everything is zombies these days, I wouldn’t be surprised if the next Pixar film after The Good Dinosaur was gonna be about zombies. Actually they’ve got sequels to Toy Story, The Incredibles, Cars and Finding Nemo lined up -way to play it safe Pixar. Anyway we were talking about zombies and the latest offering is Scout’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. You can check out the red band trailer below, just be warned that it is NSFW even if you have headphones in. Zombie boobage. Did I spoil it? Nah…..
Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets
Luc Besson’s latest project is based on a French Sci-Fi comic strip. Besson is the fellow who brought you the amazing Taken, the severely disappointing Taken 2 and the marginally better but predictable Taken 3. He also happened to write and direct The Fifth Element so Valerian could be promising. Clive Owen has just been announced as one of the 5 human characters in the movie, hopefully its more Taken than Taken 2. It’s too much to hope for another Fifth Element, I mean Owen is good looking but he’s no Milla Jovovich. Star Wars seems to have borrowed from the Valerian comic in the past so don’t expect this brave new space world to be totally unfamiliar.
Wolverine 3
What with Hugh Jackman being an Aussie he’s been chatting to the Sydney Confidential Podcast about Wolverine 3.
“There were quite a lot of calls for Victor Creed to come back,” he confirmed. “I must admit I was quite heartened by a number of people saying please don’t make it the last, but look, I’m really quite excited about this last one. And if you’re a comic book fan, the words ‘berserker rage’ came up a lot. If you know Wolverine, you’ll understand.”
Victor ‘Sabertooth’ Creed wouldn’t be the character that I’d want brought back for Jackman’s Swan Song but I’m not making the film, James Mangold is. Mangold nearly made a great Wolverine film when he took Logan to Japan in The Wolverine. He then jumped the shark by making him fight a robot samurai (Editors note – Did Robocop 3 teach us nothing?). Wolverine 3 is due out March 2017.
