Using a custom-built set inside Cityside Retail & Leisure Park (Yorkgate), The Ghost House by Cahoots NI (as part of the Belfast International Arts Festival) really is a unique experience. Following the posters, signs, and props it’s easy to find the entrance once you enter Cityside.

After assembling at the rear of the retail park, your  ‘ghost host’ leads you through the labyrinthian halls and into your first area, a circus tent with pew-like seating. Our ghost hunter Lady Helena Hope then starts us on our journey to find the secrets of the highwayman Black-Hearted Benjamin.

What transpires is essentially a location-specific interactive and technically innovative performance that includes storytelling, magic, plays, and dance.

Over the course of 75 minutes, you are told the story of The Ghost House. This is a house that only appears every 100 years and one that you are lucky enough to catch at the right time to be able to enter and uncover its secrets! To say any more would be to reveal too much.

A cast of brilliant performers brings the story to life over 4 distinct sets, with excellent use of music and special effects, all used to give a very immersive experience.

Whilst The ghost house includes some darkened spaces and spooky characters, it’s never scary and there are no ‘jump scares’ so this is a family event, and children from 8+ should be ok (depending on how they are with the dark), they have an FAQ online that should help you decide how suitable it is for your family.

Once you are out the other end there’s even a ghosty-themed gift shop for you to peruse.

The Ghost House runs until the 31st of October 2022. For more info and tickets please see their website
