Tayto Park situated in County Meath is Ireland’s only theme park, that theme being ‘Crisps’. It’s quite possible it’s the world’s only crisp themed theme park too. Either way, we headed down a few weekends ago to explore what it has to offer. It’s about an hour and a half drive from Belfast and en route we go through all 4 seasons, luckily stopping on ‘summery with a touch of occasional rain’ when we arrive.

Tayto Park
The Big Man Himself

Tayto Park is very well presented, and clean with plenty of signs. We encounter a real-life Mr Tayto as we go to eat and then later a still life version and the even later a massive one made out of bush. We took in the self-guided tour of the factory which was interesting to watch and see how the crisps are made as well as learning about the history of the place and the product.

Along with Granny and Granda we also brought our 2 and 3-year-olds and I was honestly surprised how much there was for them to do.  They loved the zoo with all the animals and couldn’t wait to go on the carousel a grand total of 3 times. However, their favourites where the newly opened Nissan Driving School and the old favourite wild west style train.  My favourite ride is the super impressive wooden roller coaster ‘CÚ CHULAINN’ that will have your heart in your mouth and wishing you had worn brown pants!  We sat at a lovely ice cream shop in the sun and had ice-cream and coffees both of which were very good, in fact, all the food and drink we had were above the standard one would expect at a theme park.

We finished the day off by visiting the dinosaur area where the 2 boys ooohhhhed and aaahhhed over the massive animatronic Jurassic beasts before we headed to the door for some slushies and complimentary Tayto crisps.

Tayto Park really does have something for all ages from Granny and Granda right down to the little ones, with food and drink to impress as well. And if you’re very lucky you might even get a photo with the big man himself!
