Culture Night belfast
Write Fight
Waterstones
44 Fountain St
19:00 – 20:30
Write Fight returns for more of your creative blood and this time is even harder than ever. The Bear, in collaboration with Waterstones Belfast, will bring you a set of literary challenges that pit you against the blank page. Can you write a story without using the letter ‘e’? Can you turn stories from Heat magazine into Shakespearian English? Round after round we set writing challenges and creative traps to which only the most creative (or outrageous) minds will rise. There are prizes to be won and refreshments to be had, so sharpen your wits, and your pencils, and take a challenge.

Even bigger than last year! Beat Carnival’s Urban Ballet dances through Belfast city-centre to a massive Culture Night finalé of 500 performers.100 Urban Ballet Dancers spearhead the parade from City Hall through Royal Avenue and North Street, to the massive sound of Beat’s 100 Drummers and new for this year, the 100 strong Street Choir and Carnival Band. Following on their heels are street performers, lanterns, puppets, floats and a massed guitar band. Like last year, you are invited to join in from the roadside and dance along with this final section of music.

Just For Tonight
18:00 – 22:30 On the hour
Maybe we’ll be cartoon plumbers, maybe we’ll take over the world, maybe we’ll drink all the tea in china and maybe we’ll be Michael Jackson backing dancers, because tonight is our night! Curious Doings is a devised performance collective that was formed in 2009. Earlier this year, Cat Bater and Mary-Frances Doherty got the band back together for an epic 4 hour improvisation as part of the Pick n Mix Festival and enjoyed it so much they’ve decided to continue making curious works together.
