If you’re a child of the ‘90s, you’ll remember splurging most of your weekend pocket money in Claire’s Accessories buying the latest hairband, scrunchie or set of hairclips to show off to your friends in school.
But as cringe as that sounds; fast-forward almost two decades and we’re reliving that school-girl dream all over again thanks to the hype being regenerated by influencers and bloggers.
However, it wouldn’t be very 2019 if the trend wasn’t taken to a whole new level. This time around, the rule is to be as extra as possible. The more you overload on hair clips, or the bigger, more colourful and glitterier the scrunchie: the better the outcome, as Instagram suggests.
Also, this trend is ridiculously easy to pull off. Having a bad hair day where the frizz just cannot be tamed? Just slick back with a hairband and it instantly looks like ten times the effort. Or, want to stop the blustery Belfast weather from ruining your look that you spent 30 minutes perfecting? Simply sweep your hair to the side and secure with a few hair clips. Your dilemma is therefore dealt with and you are looking like an influencer that has just walked out of an Instagram post from London Fashion Week.
