We arrived at Brewbot on the Ormeau Road on a gorgeous Wednesday evening to find the outside quite busy and the inside even more so – good to see during the week!

The interior is very industrial looking – all metal, with a touch of wood but very nice. There was quite a bit of seating downstairs and additional upstairs (which was cordoned off when we were there). At the back is the Brewbot itself. To a simpleton like me it just looks like a wooden box but I’m assured it is a very fancy piece of kit! It is described on their website as “The world’s smartest personal brewery” and I won’t argue with the experts.

We were there for a Yelp Belfast social event (just an excuse for a few drinks with friends) so when we were all seated down we were brought out a platter of beers – I think they call this a flight. Eight beers are brought out in little brandy-type glasses for you to try. The barman, Blake gave us our key (which helps you keep track of which beer is which) and explained in really good detail what made each one special. He really knew his stuff and was good at explaining the beers to a complete craft beer-novice like myself. You can check out Brewbot’s tap list here. Only one of the beers was brewed by the Brewbot itself, with the others being imported craft beers from other brewerys. The tasting platters are four for £6 or eight for £12.

Brewbot Flight of Beers

After he had finished explaining all the beers and we’d had a wee sip of a few of the beers we were told there were a some board games behind the bar if we fancied it – sure why not! We grabbed ‘Cards Against Humanity’ and had a good laugh between the 5 of us at some of the ridiculous (and tasteless) answers!

The one thing I didn’t like about it was the lack of snacks – anybody who knows me will understand this completely! They currently don’t do food but I think adding in some crisps, nuts etc would really just finish the experience off, and from what I’ve heard, they’re planning to add some food at a later date.

Altogether not necessarily what we were expecting but still a good night and definitely something that I would recommend craft beer lovers to check out!

Check out Brewbot on Facebook, Twitter, or just call in for a schooner some time.
