Fratelli sits on the graveyard of many, many restaurants that tried, and failed, in the same spot – Restaurant Victoria by Raymond McArdle and The Malt rooms being the most recent.  You know the one, it’s beside Red Panda and opposite the Europa. Fratelli is the sister restaurant to Fratelli at the Galgorm Hotel, so one would imagine that they know what they’re doing, in reality it was a mixed bag really.  The Menu was impressive and detailed and looked really interesting, the server was attentive and place settings and décor where all very well done.  The odd promotion on that night was ‘Ladies Night’ were female sexed people can get a meal and a glass of wine for £12. I wasn’t female sexed so I had to go a la carte.  The food however failed to live up to expectations, whilst it was good it wasn’t great.  Being an Italian I decided to try an Italian staple – pizza, I had the ‘Pizza Del Giorno – Fantastica’ quite the claim! Bacon, pepperoni, ham, red peppers and salami, a real meaty feast on a pizza.  The ham was more like pulled pork and it was slightly less well done in the middle making it a little soft. I expected more flavour from the tomato base and the meats, that never really came through.  It wasn’t as fantastica as i’d hoped.  Two others in our party loved their meals and one other didn’t like his, so like I say  mixed bag.

Fratelli isn’t long open so I think I’ll be giving them a few months to hone their consistency before trying again, because the elements are all there and they seem to have some of the meals down pat, they just need to work out a few more kinks.
