DC
Adding to the list of DC heroes on the small screen, CBS released a trailer for Supergirl. I say trailer but it’s more like a pilot episode condensed into 6 and a half minutes.
DC has been doing well recently with Arrow and The Flash so why not add Superman’s super cousin to the mix?

It looks like they handle the more otherworldly aspects of Supergirl quite well and the special effects in the trailer work well. The setup of Supergirl has an Ugly Betty vibe which hints at this being a superhero show geared more toward the fairer sex. As far as I’m aware DC are keeping their movie and television worlds both as separate entities so you probably wont be seeing Henry Cavil’s Superman dropping by for a cousin to cousin chat.
It looks like it could be good but it also looks like it’s not really my thing. There’s an audience out there for Supergirl but I don’t think it includes me.

The whole concept of Supergirl even existing kind of dilutes Superman for me. If there’s someone else out there with the powers of Superman, from the same planet as Superman, from the same planet as Superman, wearing the same costume as Superman, doing the same things as Superman then what makes Superman so Super?

CW (its hard to keep up with all these network names) are also expanding their already popular shows Arrow and The Flash (both on Sky One in the UK) with the unfortunately named Legends of Tomorrow. The name is DC cannon so I guess they have to stick with it. It features a ragtag group of characters from Arrow and The Flash (as well as some new ones) combining forces for the greater good. Front and center is The Atom, looking like an awkward RoboCop Brandon Routh hybrid. There’s also some dude from East London (Why is the east important?) called Rip Hunter who is a member of the Time Masters.

Other News
As reported earlier there’s a trailer for Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson peak. We have Kate Beckinsale returning for another Underworld film and we have a name for the new apes film coming out in 2017. War Of The Planet Of  The Apes. In voice artist news (I don’t get to say that often), the voice of Mr Burns, Harry Shearer has left The Simpsons. For details see here.

And Lastly on Netflix, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia returns for its tenth season. If you haven’t checked it out yet I suggest you get started. As far as action goes you have Fast and Furious 6 being added to the list as well as something lighter in Steve Coogan’s The Parole Officer. If you haven’t taken a look at Daredevil on Netflix then I suggest you dip your toe in that. Its not exactly new to Netflix but it is damn good. Until next week when I’ll be back with the weekly geek. Goodbye!
