care bearsIt’s either feast or famine with Netflix and although there were only a few additions this week that weren’t something to do with Care Bears I was able to find a couple of gems. A Disney classic for the family to enjoy and a Will Ferrell classic for when the kids are in bed. If like me you don’t have kids then you can watch what you like i suppose. Watch them both at once. one on the TV and the other on a laptop. See if I care.

The Rescuers – Back when Disney was making traditional old cel animation they made a film about 2 mice that set out to rescue a little orphan girl. It’s pretty great and has a rather catchy little song about the Rescue Aid Society that will stay with you for ever whether you like it or not.

rescuers

Bernard (Bob Newhart) and Miss Bianca (Eva Gabor), two New York City mice, are members of the Rescue Aid Society, an international team that operates beneath the United Nations and comes to the aid of those in need. After receiving word that Penny (Michelle Stacy), a young orphan, has been abducted by Madame Medusa (Geraldine Page), an evil woman seeking a precious diamond, the two set out to bring her back home, with help from other animal friends.

Pick of the Week – Step Brothers

That’s right, Stepbrothers. One of Will Ferrell’s best, possibly because it teams him with the awesome John C. Reilly. For me this one’s just full of memorable moments and doesn’t tire with multiple watches either. Particular highlights include a rap video performed on a yacht, an unwelcome drum solo, job interviews in tuxedos and two grown men bringing destruction upon a playground full of children.

step brothers

Brennan Huff, a sporadically employed thirty-nine-year-old who lives with his mother, Nancy. Dale Doback, a terminally unemployed forty-year-old who lives with his father, Robert. When Robert and Nancy marry and move in together, Brennan and Dale are forced to live with each other as step brothers. As their narcissism and downright aggressive laziness threaten to tear the family apart, these two middle-aged, immature, overgrown boys will orchestrate an insane, elaborate plan to bring their parents back together. To pull it off, they must form an unlikely bond that maybe, just maybe, will finally get them out of the house.
