Welcome to trailer town! This week in preparation for Star Wars everyone’s releasing trailers for some reason. Turtles, X-Men, Star Trek, BFG, Tarzan, Fantastic Beasts, Grimsby and more! Go on, fill your boots with all these trailers and the odd spot of movie news! Maybe there’s more on Spider-Man this week! Who knows?! Mumdrux!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of The Shadows

I didn’t rush out to see the first one. From the trailer there looked like too much citywide destruction for a Turtles movie. It looked like the end of days in a Transformers movie rather than 4 mutated turtles facing off against an old enemy with only their knowledge of martial arts and pizza to save them. The turtles themselves looked odd. I mean more so than usual. It was only when taking a rather lengthy aeroplane journey that I actually watched the thing. While the turtles seemed to be constantly angry with each other and a bit off character, the movie itself was surprisingly a lot of fun. Am I ready for Turtles 2 then? You bet. Beebop, Rocksteady and Casey Jones make this look like a whole bunch of fun. Pics and Trailer below.

X-Men Age of Apocalypse

We’ve had some pictures of the cast but now they’re breaking out the trailer and we finally get to see McAvoy’s crome dome, did that spoil it? If it did then you probs haven’t seen the first film. It’s kind of his thing. Here’s the synopsis and trailer

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

The BFG

I grew up with the 1989 cartoon version starring David Jason as the Big Friendly Giant. It’s a classic. Now Stephen Spielberg is taking it to the big screen with a live action version next summer. Lucky for you we have a trailer that’s light on the spoilers but big on impact. If only others could learn this subtle art…

Captain America: Civil War

captain-america-civil-war-iron-man-posterIt looks like no one is pretending that Spider-Man isn’t in Civil War. Co-director Anthony Russo himself has been talking this week about the look of Spider-Man in the film.

“Well, we did a lot of research and experimented with the looks of each character. We went through the same process with Spider-Man. […] We knew it was going to be someone young and it was very important to us because we wanted to give this essence to the character, because he is someone unique to the Marvel universe. Tom Holland is an amazing Spider-Man, people will love him. It was a very experimental process, placing him with the other actors, especially with Downey Jr., we had to learn as we worked. And we’re very happy with the final result. We’re still working on a few things, like the costume. He’s not ready yet because so much will be produced with special effects.”

Will we see Spidey in the red and gold costume worn in the Civil War comic?

“The film will show a mix of what everyone is waiting for with a little twist. So yeah, that’s all I can say.”

Spider-Man

Spider-manYeah, yeah we know about Captain America: Civil War but what comes after that for the web-slinger? Speaking to the Daily Beast, new Spider-Man Tom Holland had some things to say about the direction of the new Spider-Man film.

“It’s not The Dark Knight. One of the special things about what we’re going to try and create is that you’re going to see the biggest independent film ever. […] It’s not going to be an epic thing; it’s going to be a film surrounded by these incredible things, but that follows this boy and his life. Peter Parker is a favourite of many because everyone can relate to him, and we’re going to try to make everyone relate to our Peter Parker. And John Hughes is a perfect example of what we’re going to try and do”.

Avengers: Infinity War

luke-cage-comicsWondering what the chances are that Marvels Netflix characters might pop up elsewhere in the Marvel Universe? Maybe Luke Cage and Jessica Jones drop by at some point in the Infinity War? Maybe someday they become Avengers just like in the funny pages. At the minute they are destined to join Daredevil and Iron Fist in Netflix’ Defenders. Sort of like a small scale Avengers and Anthony Russo reckons it might stay that way for the foreseeable future.

“When we start to serialise the telling of stories it’s difficult. You have to have a lot of control and focus on the course of history. […] The films are controlled by a group led by Kevin Feige, so they function as a unit. Other products, even if they are from Marvel, are controlled by others. Then there is the possibility of a crossover, but it’s more complicated. It is a smaller scale version of the problem that exists when remembering that Fox holds the rights to some of Marvel’s most popular characters, as does Sony and others. As storytellers, we only have control over what happens in Marvel movies, but everything is possible, Spider-Man became possible!”

Star Trek Beyond

The gang is back and this time Justin Lin has the reigns of the Starship Enterprise. And what does he do with it? He smashes it to bits that’s what. Blows it right the hell up. He only had it ten minutes. Here’s the proof in the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond

The Nice Guys

Shane Black’s latest movie since Iron Man 3 is ‘the Nice Guys’ starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling. This one reminds me a lot of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang which is definitely no bad thing. In this trailer Russell Crowe is stomping around punching people in the face inside a nice 1970s setting. Speaking to People Magazine, Black said that “whether this thing is a comedy with action or a thriller with jokes, one thing that’s very clear is [Gosling and Crowe] are extremely funny. People will enjoy seeing the two of them.”

The Legend of Tarzan

Someone’s been shopping at the Django Unchained store for it’s supporting cast members and that’s no bad thing. Sam Jackson and Christoph Waltz star alongside Alexander Skarsgard and Margo Robbie in the latest attempt at Tarzan. The only versions I’m really familiar with are the Disney one and the Carry On one. I’m guessing those didn’t stick too close to the traditional story. Here we have a frankly bonkers trailer for the film which looks like it might have half a chance. Christoph Waltz is in it so that has to count for something.

Grimsby

Grimsby or quite possibly The Brothers Grimsby (I’ve seen it called both so ‘The Brother’s Grimsby’ may be it’s American title) is Sacha Baron Coen’s latest comedy caper. While it may be difficult to make another mockumentary as one of his famous comedy characters, he can still have a go at regular old comedy. The trailer looks good so hopefully it’ll be better than The Dictator.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Warner Brothers have released a teaser trailer for the new Harry Potter/Not Harry Potter film. There’s no Harry Potter in it but then again why would there be? He’s not even born yet.

Kubo and the Two Strings

Just to round things off this week, here’s the trailer for Kubo and the Two Strings. It’s from animation studio LAIKA who brought us Coraline, ParaNorman, and The Boxtrolls. It features a mix of stop motion and CG animation. It’s nice to see that stop motion still has a place and it certainly looks intriguing.
