It’s a comic book dominated week in geek news with Marvel doing all the heavy lifting. Thor, X-Men, and Captain America. We’ll also throw in The Mummy and something called Keanu.

Thor: Ragnarok

Hulk ThorMark Ruffalo, as you might have heard, is coming along for the ride in Thor: Ragnarok. Ruffalo (no relation to the Gruffalo) has been talking to Empire about where it’s all heading.

“There’s a little bit of Midnight Run, with Grodin and De Niro. […] I feel like that’s kind of where we’re heading with this relationship between Thor and Banner, It is a universal road movie – that’s where we’re heading. it’s not where you’d think it will be, so it’s not your classic road movie but it has that structure, I think”.

Thor: Ragnarok is only starting production now so it’ll be November 2017 before we get to see it.

X-Men Age of Apocalypse

x-men-apocalypseDue out this May, we finally get to see the the final film of the trilogy that began with X-Men: First Class. Collider spoke to Michael Fassbender on the set about the movie and to see where we find Magneto before all the hellfire and death that comes with Apocalypse.

“I start off in Poland. Erik is basically living a normal life, has a family, has fallen in love, and has basically disappeared for the last eight years or so. He doesn’t use his powers, has left that life behind and lives a sort of simple life.”

And after Apocalypse starts to stick it to the human race, what’s Magneto’s thinking then?

“[He’s] gonna bring as much pain to the human race as they’ve brought [him] and basically wipe them out once and for all.  In a way, it’s a more extreme, more effective version of how we’ve seen him in the past. It’s definitely the most extreme version of that, but I think he’s just come to a point where he’s been pushed to that place where he doesn’t care anymore, he’s kind of dead inside.”

I’m guessing something important happens in between falling in love and being dead inside. When asked about Magneto’s relationship with Apocalypse he said it was “Sexy, I think he turns him on in a new way.”

Collider managed to get quite a lengthy interview with him which is worth the read. You can check it out here

The Mummy

tom cruise the mummyThe Mummy’s getting a reboot along with nearly all the traditional Monsters at Universal. What’s interesting though is that Tom Cruise has been confirmed for this one. Brendan Fraser must be ripping, that’s kind of his thing. It’s set for a 2017 release and Variety reports that this time we’ll get a female version of the monster, played by Sofia Boutella. Sofia is a dancer who’s been in all kinds of music videos for Ne-Yo, Usher, Maddona, Rihanna and more. She’s also that lady with the blades for legs in Kingsman: The Secret Service and has a part in the upcoming Star Trek film. It’ll be interesting to see her interpretation.

Captain America Civil War

war_machineDon Cheadle is back as War Machine in Civil War and was talking to Superhero Hype about what it’s like to be back working on a Marvel movie.

“I never know what it’s going to be and they keep their cards very close to their breast with Marvel”, he admitted of the character’s future. “I never know where the character’s going to go, but he’s become more and more and in the next one, you’ll see that what happens to Rhodey is a little bit more intense and pivotal to what happens in the rest of the stories”.

And as for all that special effects wizardry?

“I ultimately like it when we’re there and I’m working with other actors and it’s fun, but it can be very tedious. A lot of time you’re looking at a green screen and a tennis ball on a C-stand. But you just give over to the elements and go, ‘oh these are the toys and I’m playing with the biggest and best toys’ and we’re flying around and doing stuff that if I was ten years old, I would be having the greatest time in my life!”

Crucially though, he’s clearly no longer ten and I’m guessing a lot of actors find the green screen and tennis ball ‘tedious’. Hang in there Don, hang in there.

Keanu

This week I’m leaving you with this little Trojan Horse. I had no idea who these guys were or anything about this film prior to watching the trailer. Why is it called Keanu? Is it about Keanu Reeves?  Are there any other people in the world called Keanu? ‘From the minds of Key and Peele’? Who are they? Should I know them? Should I be familiar with their work? All you have to know is that it features a gangsta’ kitten. That’s it. Watch the trailer.
