Batman V Superman’s spoilerific second trailer! Captain America Civil War news! Game of Thrones teaser! Black Panther pictures! This week’s geek news is here and it may even include something on Spider-Man. Does it? Only one way to find out!

Batman V Superman

batman_v_superman_3It just keeps coming doesn’t it? The second trailer for Bats V Supes has been released. Not long after last week’s tantalizing TV spot no less.

The first half looks great but the second half looks pretty spoilerific. I kinda wished I’d only seen the first half. Click or don’t click. It’s up to you.

Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs.  And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Game of Thrones

game of thronesIt’s been what feels like forever since we’ve had anything on Game of Thrones. The machine that is the HBO marketing department has started to grease it wheels and oil the…. whatever, I wish I hadn’t started this metaphor, I know nothing about mechanics. Anyway HBO have released a little teaser just to remind us of how horrible the last 5 seasons of Game of Thrones have been and to make us wonder why we keep coming back.

Batman

batmanThis isn’t about the upcoming Batfleck movie. This is about a new Batman game from Telltale games. Rocksteady has famously led the way with it’s Batman: Arkham series giving fans the best super hero games you could ever wish for. That all ended however with Arkham Knight when Rocksteady announced that they had nothing left to prove with Batman. There is a void then for the future of Batman in the gaming world. That however may in part be filled by Telltale games. Telltale are known for their episodic Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Sam and Max and most recently ‘Minecraft: Story Mode’ adventure games. The new game or games involving Batman won’t be on the same scale as the Arkham games but at this point the prospect of anything Batman on the horizon is welcome. They’re likely to follow the format of their previous games but at this stage who knows what they have up their sleaves. Here’s a nice little teaser that’s giving nothing away.

Fifty Shades of Black

Is this the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey? Well No. Is this a trailer that was released in the past week? No. Octogeek was looking the other way and this slipped through the cracks. He was probably too busy looking at Batman V Superman or Captain America or something. Fifty Shades of Black is a comedy due next year off the back of the success of Fifty Shades of Grey. This trailer was released in November but as I say. I missed it. Marlon Wayans writes, produces and stars in the film. The trailer makes it look not half bad. It’s no ‘White Chicks’ but I mean, how could it be? Once you’ve peaked, you’ve peaked…

Captain America: Civil War

Entertainment weekly (who else) has been all over Civil War this week, giving rise to a lot of new info and images from the film. Talking to Chadwick Boseman about his role as The Black Panther he said

black_panther“He’s definitely not the life of the party in this instance. I think this is something true of the comic book character and the movie. You never quite know where he stands. There’s always a bit of concealing and mystery. So I think mysterious is more his boat, not to say there’s not charm and he can’t be a ladies’ man and all that. It’s more like if there is humor, it’s more like James Bond.

And on the aspect of the film that sees our heroes choosing sides?

“There definitely is a sort of tradition that he’s torn between, in terms of how things were done in the past and how things need to happen now in this new world. […] I think there’s perhaps a bit of a maverick there, and then there’s also a need to live up to traditions and his father’s legacy. And not even his father’s legacy, but the entire nation of Wakanda. I think those are the things you will see. […] Ultimately some sides are taken, but I think the trick of the movie is for no one to be blindly following. Everybody is actually on their own side, in truth,”

They also produced this promotional picture of Chad (I can call him Chad can’t I?) in costume. From the brief glance we got in the trailer I wasn’t sure if Black Panther’s costume would translate well on screen but this picture looks pretty boss.

Now on to Spider-Man, a character who had a rather large part in the comic book that inspired the story. Marvel struck a deal with Sony a while ago that allows them to use Spidey in their films (previously he was off limits as Sony had full control). There’s been much speculation as to whether he’d feature in Civil War even though we’ve heard nothing from Marvel to say that he would. However, during a set visit, EW was able to watch the filming of one of the large battle scenes and noticed something interesting. A stun man standing off to the side. A stunt man wearing ‘a very familiar red and blue suit that covered him from head to toe.’

What did Kevin Fiege, head of Marvel Studios have to say about it?

“Listen, if there was a cosplayer running around that set when you were there, I don’t know what to tell you,”.

Right, Right Kevin. You’re secret’s safe with me. At least the cast aren’t saying anything right? I mean if you can’t trust Robert Downey Jr to keep quiet who can you trust?

“[Don] Cheadle and I are just going, ‘Wow, dude, look at this.’ We’re now like the old guard, and our storyline carries real weight just because of our history in the [canon]. But we’re also looking around like, ‘Who thought that Falcon and Black Panther and Ant-Man and now Spider-Man…?’ I mean it’s like wow, this thing is just crazy.”

Here’s some other pictures that came with the article, some of which we’ve seen in the trailer, none of which show any ‘cosplayers’.
