Kuki Northern Ireland

Kuki久喜are more of a brand, than an artist. They have a persona. They have an image. They have a sort of alter ego. In fact, they are just one person. However, it seems almost wrong to describe Kuki 久喜 as simply 20-year-old Michael Harvey. Producing Electronic Dance Music and dubstep for just a year, Kuki 久喜 have already had over 3,000 listens online in little over 4 days – that’s no mean feat for a boy from Limavady.

With musical roots in blues, grunge and metal, alongside the more predictable dubstep influences of Caspa, Skrillex and Aphex Twin, it’s clear that Kuki 久喜 isn’t just generic dubstep or EDM. If you want to have a listen for yourself, go here.

With tracks like Kuki Vs MOTH – Succubus My Sepentine (The Dreamstride Remix) there’s a definite rock twist on dubstep, whereas Kuki vs. Lykke Li – I Follow Rivers takes Swedish singer/songwriter Lykke Li to a whole new level. This is without a doubt one of my favourite tracks; it’s haunting yet upbeat, full of wubs, and deadly catchy.

Reach For (All My Dreams) is another one that will get stuck in your head, it’s laidback, smooth and sounds a bit like something you’d hear sampled in a more mainstream track. I Wait is a classic dubstep track, fast paced, relentless, choppy and with some nice heavy electronic moments that get your heart racing and your body moving.

With an almost 100% Asian image, Northern Irish producer Michael makes the music, while the face of Kuki 久喜 itself is a Japanese influenced model also from Limavady. This Asian image ties in with the name, Kuki 久喜which means ‘stems’ in Japanese – a nod to the sampling and mixing of the electronic world.

Kuki 久喜 are new, different and definitely about to go far, so I urge you to jump on the bandwagon before you get left behind!
