Belfast singer/songwriter Robb Murphy is a hard one to pigeon-hole. His sound is strong, emotive and raw to say the least, but with an edge that makes him stand out from the usual guitar toting songsmiths. After releasing his debut album Take a Stand in 2012, Murphy is back with Sleep Tonight, a 12 song follow-up which he describes as:

“an album of songs, simple in melody and
production, which contain a ‘real feel’ to them”
It’s been a busy few months for Murphy who recently performed at the Belfast-Nashville Songwriters Festival alongside releasing Sleep Tonight to much critical acclaim. Murphy released The Darker Side from Sleep Tonight in March, and after performing the track on BBC’s The Arts Show decided to release an acoustic version of the song which is available here. Filmed in the Ulster Museum, you can watch the performance below:

The Darker Side is a stunning song filled with genuine emotion, a haunting melody and gentle, yet confident delivery. In this beautifully recorded track, Murphy’s passion is beheld in all of its glory. There’s a distinctly Northern Irish sound to this; a celtic, rhythmic balance which Murphy so masterfully upholds. After one listen, you’re hooked and you can’t wait to hear more from this emotive artist.

I also quite like origami, reading, jazz, hip-hop, dubstep, anything acoustic and Food Network TV. I've written for The Big List, Culture NI, Chatterbox and The Echo, as well as writing for BBC Across the Line.
