Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them

Set in 1926, FBAWTFT as I’m calling it will be J. K. Rowling’s first screenplay. She’s written books and stuff I think and had a fair amount of input in the Harry Potter movies but this is her first go at writing a movie. Oscar darling Eddie Redmayne stars as Newt Scamander (doing his best audition for Doctor Who) and Entertainment Weekly has a little taster of what the film will actually be about as well as some snazzy pics. I’m not sure about you but if they’re going for a period setting they should maybe think of removing those cameras and boom mics. They kind of take me right out of it. Pics and plot below.

‘Eccentric magizoologist Newt Scamander (Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne) comes to New York (for a reason we won’t disclose) with his trusty weathered case. This case is one of those way-way-way-bigger-on-the-inside magical devices, and within are expansive habitats for a collection of rare and endangered magical creatures from Newt’s travels around globe. He discovers the American wizarding community is fearfully hiding from Muggles (who are called “No-Maj” in the States) and the threat of public exposure is an even graver concern than in the UK (remember the Salem witch trials?). Fantastic Beasts is the story of what happens when this uniquely skilled English wizard travels to wiz-phobic America and a variety of his creatures, some quite dangerous … get out of their case. ‘ – EW

Doctor Strange

We’re finally getting some more on Marvel’s Doctor Strange now that shooting has started. We have Doctor Strange and Baron Mordo in deep discussion in Nepal. It’s our first look at Benedict Cumberbatch as the pre sorcerer Strange and Chiwetel Ejiofor on set as Baron Mordo. More to come I hope.

Alice Through The Looking Glass

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland was fine and all but did we really need a sequel? Apparently so. Returning are Mia Wasikowska, Anne Hathaway, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and the voice of Alan Rickman. Sacha Baron Cohen will play the abstract concept of Time. Not returning is director Tim Burton.  James Bobin (The Muppets/ Muppets Most Wanted) will fill his creepy nightmare clown shoes with the curled up toes. If that sounds like your thing then you’re in luck today because we have a trailer.

Hateful Eight

Ready for Christmas. Tarantino’s latest film is about cowboys again although probably has less N words. Probably. We have a new trailer for it, some of the stuff here was in the first trailer released a while back but there’s some new stuff here. As much as I dislike Tarantino his movies are almost always amazing, if very self-indulgent. See his ‘Australian’ cameo in Django Unchained for a reason why QT really needs someone to tell him ‘No’ every now and again.
