This week we’ve got X-Men, Pan, James Bond, X-Files, Studio Ghibli and Attack on Titan. Come and see all that you can see!

X-Men : Age of Apocalypse

Entertainment Weekly has a big spread on the new X-Men film with lots of lovely pictures including out fist good look at Apocalypse. Oh dear. These things can turn out better in the actual film but he does look a bit… unimpressive. Comparisons have been drawn across the interwebs, to Ivan Ooze from the Power Ranger’s move. I’m guessing that wasn’t what they were going for. Thankfully we have some other images of X-Men that look pretty spot on. Jubilee looks good, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey looks good and Psylocke looks great. It looks like she’s been lifted straight off the page which is amazing when you consider that her costume is pretty much a swim suit and some leg straps. It’s impractical at best. I prefer Alan Cumming’s Night Crawler but I guess the proof will be in the pudding.

Pan

Did you want another Peter Pan movie? Well tough luck cos you’re getting one. This one’s different from 1991’s Hook, 2003’s Peter Pan, 2004’s Finding Neverland and 2011’s Neverland mini series. This one is called Pan! This time it’s an origin story about how he overcame his unassuming background and low social standing, dropping his slave name, Peter and became… Pan! Also sometime he lets you call him Peter Pan so that he can keep the copyright on it.

Here’s the real synopsis. I wasn’t far off though.

From director Joe Wright (“Atonement,” “Pride & Prejudice”) comes “Pan,” a live-action feature presenting a wholly original adventure about the beginnings of the beloved characters created by J.M. Barrie.

Peter (Levi Miller) is a mischievous 12-year-old boy with an irrepressible rebellious streak, but in the bleak London orphanage where he has lived his whole life those qualities do not exactly fly. Then one incredible night, Peter is whisked away from the orphanage and spirited off to a fantastical world of pirates, warriors and fairies called Neverland. There, he finds amazing adventures and fights life-or-death battles while trying to uncover the secret of his mother, who left him at the orphanage so long ago, and his rightful place in this magical land. Teamed with the warrior Tiger Lily (Rooney Mara) and a new friend named James Hook (Garrett Hedlund), Peter must defeat the ruthless pirate Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman) to save Neverland and discover his true destiny—to become the hero who will forever be known as Peter Pan.

It looks like they threw a whole heap of Avatar style money at this one. It’s like The Golden Compass had a baby with Scorsese’s Hugo and that baby was adopted by Pirates of the Caribbean. Also there’s a prophecy . There’s always a prophecy.

The X-Files

It’s a long way to wait but it is coming and we have a teaser to prove it.
The new teaser doesn’t show much but it does make me excited for new X-Files.

Studio Ghibli

GhibliLast we heard, famed Studio Ghibli director, Hayao Miyazaki (My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away) had retired after 2013’s The Wind Rises. Well now it appears that he’s not quite downed tools yet. He will be directing a 10 minute animated short for the Ghibli museum in Tokyo. The short will take 3 years to create, feature a Caterpillar called Boro and unusually it will all be computer generated. No word on why it will take so long or if it will be shown outside the museum.

Attack on Titan

Keeping with Japanese news, we have a trailer for the live action Attack on Titan. If you haven’t heard of it its Manga comic that became an Anime show that is now becoming 2 live action movies. The Japanese have been going crazy for it so there’s a lot riding on this live action adaptation. The story is set in a world where ‘humanity lives inside cities surrounded by enormous walls as a defense against the Titans, gigantic humanoid creatures that eat humans seemingly without reason’. Like most things that come from Japan, this looks insane.

Spectre

We finally get a proper look at the new Bond film. This time there’s a car with gadgets in it and snow and Christoph Waltz! Check out the trailer below.

Minecraft

robBefore we head onto the Netflix section of our round up, there’s one more piece of news. The director for Warner Brothers Microsoft Minecraft movie has been decided. It’s Rob McElhenney. That’s right. Mac from ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ is in charge of the Minecraft move. Awesome. This is the man who will bring the global  sensation that is Minecraft to the world of cinema.

NetFlix

Allright, first things first. Since we covered the Attack on Titan movies that are coming up I might as well let you know that if that tickled your fancy, you can check out the first series of the anime on Netflix. They even give you the choice to have it dubbed in english or just have subtitles. Neat eh? I’m not crazy for anime but I’ve been watching a few and its pretty good. Especially when giant naked monsters start tearing through the streets eating people. Its like a bunch of Godzillas ( whats the plural? Godzilli?) that forgot their costumes….. and um are horribly disfigured. If you want to see what the new Minecraft movie director has been doing for the past ten years then you can also check out It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’. As for new stuff on Netflix I recommend ‘A Walk Among the Tombstones’. Its got ‘the’ Neeson in it. Beyond that the pickings are slim this week. Maybe go outside and see whats going on out there? Play some sports, go for a run.
