Suicide Squad
Empire has been all about the Suicide Squad movie this month and writer/director David Ayer has been expanding on his thoughts on where his Suicide Squad movie deviates from the comic book movie norm.
“You know, all these movies are about defeating the evil alien robot from [cuss]ing Planet X before it destroys the world with its ticking clock. And who the [cuss] cares? [….] But you do this story about struggle and isolation and people who have been [cussed] on that suddenly get thrown this lifeline… that’s not so bad. […] I like to think of this as the Comic Book Movie 2.0.”
I wonder what he was referencing? Suffice to say he didn’t censor his own language so we here at pastie bap have done it for you. We know how sensitive your little ears are, cos he did say fuck a couple of times. Starboard.
His Dark Materials
For everyone that was a bit disappointed in The Golden Compass adaptation there’s some good news. BBC One has teamed up with New Line to make an 8 part adaptation of Phillip Pullman’s ‘His Dark Materials’ trilogy. It’s expected that the series is just the beginning rather than covering the whole thing in one series.
Pullman expressed his feelings thus,
“In recent years we’ve seen how long stories on television, whether adaptations or original ), can reach depths of characterization and heights of suspense by taking the time for events to make their proper impact and for consequences to unravel. And the sheer talent now working in the world of long-form television is formidable. […] For all those reasons I’m delighted at the prospect of a television version of ‘His Dark Materials.’ I’m especially pleased at the involvement of Jane Tranter, whose experience, imagination, and drive are second to none. As for the BBC, it has no stronger supporter than me. I couldn’t be more pleased with this news.”
Star Trek
There’s been a lengthy announcement from CBS hailing a new Star Trek series. This will be good news for fans of the show and looks like it could be something new and interesting. unfortunately most of the press release was some sort of garbled advertisement for CBS’ streaming service in America with plenty of phrases like
The premiere episode and all subsequent first-run episodes will then be available exclusively in the United States on CBS All Access, the Network’s digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service.
OK, we get it. This is a CBS exclusive. Well done.
“The new program will be the first original series developed specifically for U.S. audiences for CBS All Access, a cross-platform streaming service that brings viewers thousands of episodes from CBS’s current and past seasons on demand, plus the ability to stream their local CBS Television station live for $5.99 per month. CBS All Access already offers every episode of all previous Star Trek television series.”
Right, Right, sound great. I thought this was a press release about Star Trek though?
“The brand-new Star Trek will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966.”
Ah, I see. Imaginative new worlds.
“Alex Kurtzman will serve as executive producer for the new Star Trek TV series. Kurtzman co-wrote and produced the blockbuster films Star Trek (2009) with Roberto Orci, and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) with Orci and Damon Lindelof. Both films were produced and directed by J.J. Abrams.”
We got there in the end. The show will hit ‘CBS All Access‘ in January 2017.
Netflix
John Carter. I guessing you didn’t see it because everyone said it was awful. Well this is the kind of film that Netflix excels at showcasing. Films that you didn’t see at the cinema and had no intention of renting but were always curious about. You’re not gonna pay money to see it but since it’s here you might as well.
