This we have news on Daniel Craig’s future as Bond, the Blade Runner sequel and Avengers Infinity War. We also have the X-Files trailer, Minecraft’s new story mode and Dr Who’s new Lego set. Any of those interest ya?

James Bond

spectreSo everyone’s gearing up for the new Bond movie and ol’ Danny Craig has been doing his usual round of interviews, finally admitting what everyone already expected. He’s contractually obliged to do one more Bond film after SPECTRE. He also admitted to The Mail that training was “getting harder,” saying, “I’ll keep going as long as I’m physically able.”

Avengers Infinity War

thanosMarvel Studios Executive Jeremy Latcham has been giving an update of the long muted ‘changing of the guard’ that will inevitably happen with the Avengers. Cap, Thor and Iron Man can’t always be ‘Earths Mightiest Heroes’ at least not in their current form anyway. Unlike the characters in the comics, actors can only play a part for a certain amount of time and it’s been expected that the current line up would change somewhere among the 2 Infinity War films.

“I think it definitely is an end to some version of the team that we’ve come to know as The Avengers. Who knows exactly what is going to happen yet in that film, but I think this version of that team – and I think we start to hint at it at the end of Age of Ultron -will be evolving. The ideas and ideals and things that make the Avengers the Avengers still exist, and I think that’s part of what this culmination will be. We’re seeing this version of the team doing this thing to save the universe, the galaxy, however you want to put it, and we’ll kind of see where that goes. It’s not the end of the Marvel cinematic universe, but I think that it is the end of part of it for sure.”

Minecraft

Minecraft is finally getting a story mode. This is good news for those of you that have had your fill of building houses and castles that get blown up in the middle of the night by creepy green block monsters and would like something a little more focused. The Cast includes John Hodgman Patton Oswalt, Catherine Taber, Brian Posehn, Billy West (of Futurama), Ashley Johnson, Corey Feldman (of the 80’s) and Paul Reubens (of Pee-Wee Herman). Looking at the trailer I’m not entirely sure I’m sold on it but I’m sure it’ll be grand. The Game will play out in 5 episodes released separately or on a disc that allows you to unlock them as you go.

Blade Runner

Ridley Scott has been a busy bee in the world of sci-fi hasn’t he? He’s just released The Martian with Maaaaat Daaaamon and has been building up his Alien franchise Prometheus, now he’s been teasing some more about the long sought after Blade Runner sequel. Ryan Gosling will be carrying the torch after this one it seems, lets hope he does it better than Shia The Beef in Indiana Jones. Speaking to Yahoo! Ridley said  “[Blade Runner] was 2017, so coming back it’ll be 2047, roughly,[…]“As young as you can play Ryan Gosling. He’s 34, but he looks 27 when he’s doing his push-ups. So maybe 2050.”

blade-runner-sequel-harrison-fordScott won’t be directing this one though. That honour goes to  Denis Villeneuve of Sicario and Prisoners. It looks like Scott will have some sort of say in the final product though.

“I mean, I always have final cut on everything, really. Partly because I’m very user-friendly. I always believe when you’re given X amount of money by someone to f**k around with and make a movie, you can’t draw lines in the sand. If I was an investor and you did that to me, I’d remove your ankles. So don’t do the auteur s**t. I respect the guy for giving the money and I respect the studio for saying, ‘Yeah, you want to do this, here we go.’”

At least I think that’s what he’s trying to say there, he’s easy to work with so always gets his way, is that it? He does what the studio wants because they gave him the money? He said that in there too, I’m not sure. I’d love to have seen him work on Dr Moraeu or Fantastic Four and see how that came out. It feels like Ridley had enough success early on that the studios felt they didn’t need to mess with his films, it also feels he’s reasonably professional about the whole business.

The X-Files

The X-Files is coming back and it’s bringing the old gang along with it. Mulder, Skully, The Smoking Man, that UFO picture from the opening credits. It’s all here! Also now we have drones in it too!

Doctor Who

If you read Octogeek often enough you may notice a certain lack of news regarding a certain Time Lord. I try to cover everything as best I can but Dr Who is not a program on my watch list. I don’t dislike, there’s just too many other things to watch. If I want to see a grey haired maniac traveling through the cosmos with his young companion I get my fix of that from Rick and Morty. That doesn’t mean however that Dr Who coming into the Lego fold isn’t awesome. Lego have released pictures of their first Who themed set and obviously it’s the TARDIS. It makes me kinda wish I watched the show. There’s a perfect little Tardis and it’s inner workings too. We also get some daleks and 2 doctors! What more could you ask for? one of those stone angel things? Sure have one of those too! Looking at the Daleks tho I recon I can make my own at home which is handy as I’m sure this won’t come cheap.

Netflix

Well we have quite the range of things on Netflix this week. If you feel like killing yourself then you’re in luck because all 3 human centipede films are here. There’s your Friday night planned. If you feel like life is still worth living you can watch Bad Grandpa. As it’s Halloween Netflix have added the new Scream TV series if you didn’t catch that when it was on TV. Lastly we have Spielberg’s War Horse if you’re looking for something about a horse that went to war. My pick would be Bad Grandpa though.
