For as long as I can remember, white boots have always been a bit of a fashion faux-pas.

Am I the only one who remembers white boots being generally labelled as ‘tacky’ growing up? I have no idea where this stereotype stemmed from – but as I’ve learned, fashion always comes back around and surprises you in more ways you can imagine.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realised that white is simply a neutral colour that should be treated the same way as we rely on wearing black, tan and beige shades so much.

I have never wanted a pair of 70s-esque white boots so much after spotting a couple of amazing Instagram and Pinterest looks rocking them. Below are some of my favourite outfits featuring white boots that are just oozing with inspirational freshness and chicness:

If you’re still not convinced – try treating white boots like any white trainers you own. You never question pairing a midi dress with white trainers – so just swap them over and you’re good to go!

The only advice I would give is to be mindful of the other colours you’re wearing in your outfit. If white is featured in your look in the form of polka dots, stripes or florals; that’s a huge bonus as you already have something for the white boots to compliment and accentuate. Or if you were to wear a block colour, let’s say a green suit jacket and trouser set: break these pieces up with a white t-shirt and boots – this would be a sleek way of incorporating white boots into an outfit without depending on a print if it isn’t your style.

However, if you’re wearing a predominantly black outfit – be wary of white boots looking a bit stark or harsh on the eye. Although this would be one of the most effective ways to make the boots stand out, you could update a plain monochromatic look by introducing a zebra print bum bag to integrate the white in a different, more interesting way. Another option would be to simply colour-block with a red clutch bag.

Whatever your thoughts on white boots – they’re the perfect outfit-brightener for those who aren’t ready to let go of summer just yet. They’re also a great transitional piece which will see you right through the end of autumn and maybe even winter. Here are some of my best picks from the high street…
