We gathered at Harley’s in Finaghy to try the best of the best in Belfast’s burgers and the competition was fierce to say the least.
With seven contenders in total, this was always going to be a challenge, but someone had to do it. For more difficult decisions, check out the Yelp Belfast Wing-Off and Pizza-Off competitions.
At the end of the night The Barking Dog‘s burger was crowned as Yelp Belfast’s #BurgerOff champion and with a centre made of braised shin meat, deservedly so.
We thought we’d share our thoughts on the 7 contenders with some handy pictures to help you make a more educated burger choice in the future.
The Barking Dog – a beefy patty with braised shin meat in the centre, sufficient salad and cheese on top. The overall winner of the 2015 #BurgerOff and our hearts. This is a super burger that is a little different than your standard cheese burger. Bravo!
Rocket & Relish – another patty that suffered from being too tightly packed, the burger itself was average, whilst the garlic mayo was really tasty.
AM:PM – this was a chilli burger which tasted amazing. Fully loaded with pickles, tobacco onions, cheese and chilli, the taste was great even though it was just a bit too big.
Hotplate Noshery – they may have won the #WingOff but this time it was joint 2nd. Hotplate served up juicy, tasty little sliders that really hit the spot. Another favourite of the night.
Harley’s – the hosts for the #BurgerOff, but the worst burger of the lot; with a dense patty and too much BBQ sauce, this was average at best.
Bootleggers – formerly Alley Cat, this is my favourite burger in Belfast without a doubt. Served with tender brisket and some sort of caramelised onion topping, this tender burger takes things to a new level.
City Picnic – claims to have the best burger in Belfast, but unfortunately just fell short as it came joint 2nd. Wonderfully pink in the middle with a soft (maybe brioche) bap, bacon, pulled pork and a super crispy onion ring. Also came joint 2nd.
