This week we have TV show based on a movie for your streaming pleasure. We also have something to keep the kids occupied that isn’t from the House of Mouse. Lastly we have some martial arts shenanigans the likes of which you’ve never seen. Probably.

The Road to El Dorado – One for the kids maybe. I’ve good memories of this one along with Anastasia, both of which are on Netflix at the moment. It’s a great animation from a studio that isn’t Disney for once and features the voice talents of Armand Assante, Kenneth Branagh and Kevin Kline.

Two con-men (Kevin Kline, Kenneth Branagh) get hold of a map to the lost City of Gold, El Dorado. After stowing away onto one of the ships of the Spanish explorer Cortez, the pair escapes and eventually do find the city. There, a priest (Armand Assante) proclaims them to be gods in a scheme to win control of the city for himself. Meanwhile, they meet a beautiful girl (Rosie Perez) who helps them in their ruse.

Teen Wolf – 2 seasons of of the Teen Wolf TV adaptation are coming to Netflix this week. It’s been getting some decent reviews so if you were on the fence about checking it out, now’s the perfect time.

An animal bite turns a high schooler into a werewolf and he suddenly becomes a star athlete and chick magnet. But he also faces a new set of problems.

Pick of the Week – Kung Fu Hustle – Here’s one that I remember seeing the trailer for few years back but never got to the cinema to see. It has a kind of Kung Pow: Enter the Fist vibe to it. It gets a decent score on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes (around 7-8/10) so now that it’s on Netflix I’ll be checking it out some weekend when I’ve had a few drinks.

kung fu

In Shanghai in the ’30s, times are dangerous and gangs rule the streets. The most notorious of these, the Axes, strike fear into the hearts of honest citizens and inspire admiration in one young wannabe. One day, in a slum on the outskirts of town, he wreaks havoc when he recklessly poses as an Axe member and causes a veritable riot between the real gang members and the denizens of a housing project who just so happen to be strangely well versed in the art of kung fu.
